Amamere Thrills Fans @ Golden Keys

ONE OF Ghana's leading cultural dance groups, Amamere Folk Music & Dance Ensemble, returned home with a bronze medal a couple of days ago from Canada, where the group had participated in the 2009 Dance World Cup. The group used the event to showcase the rich Ghanaian culture to the outside world.
Amamere group, led by Badu Evans, an experienced Drummer and vocalist and Quaye Lawrence, dancer and choreographer, have participated in so many international festivals including some in Italy in 2002, 2004 and 2006, Germany in 2005, United Kingdom-2003, 2005, among others.
The 2009 Dance world Cup, which is the second edition of the competition, was organized by 5678 Showtime Incorporation, a Canadian based entertainment outfit. Last year, over 500 competitors participated in different categories for medallions.
As a fore-runner in the development of Contemporary African Dance in Ghana, Amamere Folk Music & Dance Ensemble has embarked on an educational and performance training programme for the youth and social development for the past nine years with great success.
Last Friday, the group staged live cultural dance performances at the Golden Keys Club and Restaurant located at the Abeka Junction in Accra.
The aim of the live cultural performance was to entertain its numerous fans and also to officially brief them about its trip to Canada.
Amamere derives its technique and methodology from the movement characteristics, aesthetic qualities and philosophy of the African dance traditions and the enormous movement and rhythmic resources available in the various communities.
The style and vocabulary of Amamere is based on the philosophy that the human body is the manifestation of the life force; the tool for the creation and dissemination of dance to mirror the experiences and aspirations of the various communities.
Golden key Club and Restaurant, which happens to be one of the numerous sponsors of the group, is very proud to be associated with their success.
The club last week announced that from this week it has lined up a number of events such as cultural night, which will involve different cultural groups all over the region on Fridays, live band every Saturdays and Salsa/francophone every Sundays.
Amamere Folk Music & Dance Ensemble is a member of the National center for Arts & Culture, National Commission on Culture, Ghana Export Promotion Council and Ghana Monument Board.
It affiliates internationally with Cioff, IOV, CID (international festival organizers) Austria, and is the only West African representative of Leading University of Dance, Theater and Show Organisation - Mandova, Italy. By George Clifford Owusu
