Cultural Fund Calls For Applications

THE INSTITUTE for Music and Development (IMD), administrators of the Ghana Cultural Fund (GCF), over the weekend launched yet another call for applications for support in respect of cultural projects related to development.
Making the call, a co-director of IMD, , said organizations and individuals with projects involving dance, music, theatre, art and literature, cultural exchange programmes between Ghana and Denmark as well as developing or showcasing artistic creations are welcome to apply.
She said applications, which have a September 15 deadline for submission, would be vetted by a committee of experts based on relevance, sustainability, realistic budget, linkage to development and poverty alleviation and the growth and development of the arts in Ghana as a whole.
Recommendations from the committee are subject to approval by the board of GCF.
Ms. Amarteifio added that a total of GH¢379,987.83 has been released for diverse projects throughout the country since the inception of the GCF in 2007. These include Sirigu (Upper East Region), Tamale (Northern Region), Dodowa, Amasaman, James Town (Greater Accra Region), Hohoe, Kpando, Ho (Volta Region).
Some of the recipients include Koo Nimo Cultural Centre, Mmofra Foundation, Music Departments of the Universities of Ghana and Cape Coast , Foundation for Contemporary Art, Local Dimension and Takashi Bands, Media Line, Prof. Ama Atta Aidoo, Not a Waste Recycle, Sirigu Women's Organization for Pottery and Art and Youth Home Cultural Group.
GCF is governed by a framework of collaboration between the Royal Danish Embassy in Ghana and the Danish centre for Culture and Development in Ghana. It has a total budget of GH¢5.65 million.
Objectives of the fund include the strengthening of inter-cultural relations; mutual understanding and promotion of democratic values among the people of Ghana through inter-cultural expressions and interactions. It is also to foster Ghanaian/Danish collaborations through the contemporary arts and the preservation of our shared cultural heritage.
