Hiplife musician, Obour, has called on politicians to leave the youth out of their plans if violence is their agenda for this year's elections.
Leading a well attended peace walk tagged “1 Ghana Peace Begins With You Walk” in Bolgatanga to create more awareness of the need for peace in the upcoming elections, Obour cautioned politicians not to think that they could rely on the youth to cause civil unrest and stir up violence.
It was organised by Youth Icons Ghana, in collaboration with Family Tree Entertainment.
“The days when the youth were always at the beck and call of power-seeking politicians are coming to an end. The youth are the owners of the future and as such are no more interested in actions that will impact negatively on their future,” he said.
He noted that anytime there was any political violence, it was the youth who did the fighting and died, while politicians sat comfortably in their homes and monitored happenings on television.
He stressed that politics was all about how best to find solutions to the many challenges that confronted the nation, not about vindictiveness and holding vendetta.
After addressing the charged crowd after the walk at the Jubilee Park in Bolga where the milling crowd converged, the Grand Medal recipient entertained the crowd with his peaceful manifesto song, 'President Obour'.
The walk attracted patronage from radio presenters, second-cycle institutions, students of the UDS campus in Navrongo, Zoomlion employees and many young people who believe in peace.
In a related development, Obour took his '1 Ghana Peace Project' to Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region where he visited the Bolga Naba's palace to present copies of his peace album, 'President Obour', to the Bolga Naba.
During a discussion which lasted about half an hour, Obour thanked the Bolga Naba for the role he continually played to ensure peace and unity in Bolga.
“Bolga is in the centre of two conflict zones and yet the people of Bolga remain non violent and very peaceful,” he noted.
The Bolga Naba, for his part, told Obour that he was aware of the challenges the youth faced and so violence and negative tendencies were behaviours he constantly advised the youth to shun.
He congratulated Obour on his initiative and encouraged him to extend his peace campaign to the entire West African sub-region because the absence of conflict did not mean the promotion of peace must discontinue.
