“Peace should not only be on our lips. Let's see it in action,” the second runner-up at the Miss Ghana 2008 contest, Shirley Nwangere, who put up a beautiful solo act on peace during the talent hunt segment of the competition has charged Ghanaians.

“I thought that peace should not just be on our lips but must be seen in action, that was why I chose to do a solo drama on peace using the colours and symbols of the various parties as well as the flag of Ghana,” Miss Nwangere told The Mirror.

Miss Nwangere who is also a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology also expressed the hope that Ghanaians will look beyond their party interests and remain tolerant at all times.

Shirley Nwangere presented the drama so well that she won the prize for the best talent during the Miss Ghana show held in Accra on August 1.

With the colours and symbols of the parties pinned to her dress, the beauty queen preached peace with a big smile that won the hearts of the wall-to-wall crowd at the National Theatre, who responded with loud cheers as she peeled off one party logo after the other leaving the flag of Ghana firmly on her dress.

The organiser of the Miss Ghana beauty pageant, Shirley Frimpong-Manso also urged Ghanaians to take seriously, the peace messages sent out by musicians and contestants at the Miss Ghana show.

“As organisers of a pageant for women, we were very serious about preaching peace, especially now that political campaigns are heating up for the December presidential and parliamentary polls”.

“Women and children tend to suffer during wars and conflicts and it is our prayer that Ghanaians will heed our message and give peace a chance to save them from pain,” Miss Frimpong-Manso reiterated in a chat with The Mirror.
