King Ayisoba Nets Most Popular Song Of The Year Award
06.05.2007 LISTEN

King Ayisoba was crowned the king in this year's Ghana Music Awards Festival held at the national theatre as part of Ghana's 50th anniversary celebrations.

He came up tops in the coveted most popular song of the year category. King Ayisoba slugged it out with the likes of Ofori amponsah, Obrafuor, samini, Praye, wutah, Lord Kenya and Kweku Gyesi.

The kologo instrumentalist stepped up on stage in his usual African costume along with his entourage of dreadlocks-flashing dancers.

He didn't forget to remind us of Terry Bonchaka's poulele as he approached his award. Standing before a microphone rose high above him, he thanked all the radio DJs for their props and Ghanaians for their support. His indefatigable producer, Panji Anoff was present to boost the morale.

King Ayisoba also came away with the discovery of the year award, an award most showbiz critics predicted he would win.

He was also the recipient of the traditional song of the year. The novelty of the Ghana Music Awards 2007 event this year is the fact that a traditional artist won in the most popular song of the year category. Traditional music has hardly been in the mainstream of Ghanaian music but King Ayisoba changed it all.

The King did stage one of his best performances ever with Samini joining him on stage to do the champion song.

He has joined the likes of Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, Lord Kenya, Obour, Kontihene, Ofori Amponsah and V.I.P in the league of extraordinary artistes who have achieved the honours of most popular song of the year.
