The Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF) has set up a panel of five to receive and vet nominations from the general public, with a view to selecting personalities and institutions to be conducted into the Tourism Hall of Fame.

The panel, headed by Mr Alex Boakye, the Quality Control Manager of Ghana Tourism Authority, has been appointed from among men and women of unquestioned integrity, leadership skills and knowledge of the tourism and hospitality industry.

Announcing the panel of adjudicators at a media briefing in Accra, David Nana Anim, National President of GHATOF, said a call for nominations had already gone out through the mass media and on the GHATOF website.

He said the judgement of the panel will be based on a set-up criteria agreed upon by a National Awards Committee, chaired by Mr Johnnie Morreaux, one time President of the Ghana Association of Travel and Tourist Agents (GATTA), a man with over 30 years in the industry. Nominees will be expected to have attained high level of achievement built on the five pillars of capacity building, sustainable tourism development, innovation, professional leadership and dedication.

The GHATOF president further announced that the judgement of the panel will be subjected to further review by an independent committee of two highly qualified professionals

Mr Nana Anim further announced that deadline for the submission nominations, accompanied by a profile of the nominees, had been fixed for August 31, 2016.

The first ever Tourism Hall of Famers will be inducted at a grand ball to be held at the Banquet Hall of the State House in October this year.

He said dedicated and insightful professionals will be inducted into Tourism Hall of Fame every two years.

The Tourism Hall of Fame has been created to recognise outstanding individuals who through their leadership, dedication and professionalism have made significant contributions to the tourism industry in Ghana.

It is a public recognition of those individuals and corporate bodies who have made tourism an important part of their life's work and whose actions have had a positive impact on the tourism industry.
