But for Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, this year’s Ghana Meets Naija concert would have been a total defeat for Ghanaian artistes considering the performances the Nigerians put up.

The Nigerians brought on board Harrysong, Olamide and Flavour. On the Ghanaian side was Pappy Kojo, EL, and Shatta Wale.

Before the start of the show, many had tipped E L, the current Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year to prove to Ghanaians that he really merited the award, however, that did not happen last Saturday at the Accra International Conference Centre as Nigerian rapper, Olamide defeated him.

EL had technical hitches just as he mounted the stage, making him perform poorly. He started his performance with Obuu Mo but was not able to move the crowd because he was upset with the the technical hitches. After performing his second song, Shelele he paused and told the audience he wanted to speak his mind on what had happened earlier on.

EL paused to say something unpleasant about the technical hitches which got the audience upset and they started booing him. Although he had not finished performing, the audience were shouting ‘away’ while others screamed Shatta Wale’s name.

It was when he sang Koko that few people danced but many were disappointed in him for his bad performance. On the other side, Nigerian rapper, Olamide put up a sterling performance as he dazzled patrons with his performance right from start to finish. The Nigerian music star started off by taking some minutes to greet his fans before kicking off with his first song. He then moved into the crowd to connect more with his fans.

This worked perfectly as he got them chanting and screaming. Olamide performed Lili Kesh’s popular Shoki tune, Shakiti bobo and Reggae blues, making him the obvious winner of the pair.

After such a heavy defeat, the audience were rooting for Shatta Wale to save the image of Ghanaians and he did just that.

Dressed in a white jacket and shorts, Shatta Wale started his performance by taking Ghanaians back to his Bandana days by performing “Bandana from Ghana”. He did not waste time in giving Ghanaians what they wanted. He performed songs like Zinabu, Kakai, Mahama Paper, Shatta City which had the audience singing and dancing along with him. His stay on stage was exciting to watch as he interacted with the audience telling them to stay from away from violence in the upcoming election.

He ended his performance by inviting his wife, Shatta Michy, on stage to model around in a sexy costume. The auditorium was very empty after Shatta’s performance even though Flavour put up a splendid performance.

Although Pappy Kojo had a good show by performing songs like Aye Late, Awoa and Realer No, Nigerian singer Harrysong beat him with a live band performance. He had composed his own song about Ghana and Naija and in the song chose Ghana over Naija which was well enjoyed by everyone in the auditorium

There were also performances by VVIP and Mr Eazi. This year’s Ghana Meets Naija can be described as the worst of its kind. Security was terrible at the entrance as many people received slaps trying to get their way through.

The microphones and the entire system kept going off making the show boring to watch.
