Followers of Shatta Wale have become accustomed to witnessing amazing stage craft during his live performances.

As unpredictable as his appearances on stage have become, very few expected the Dancehall King to make an angelic appearance last Friday night when he launched his newest album with a trademark, incredible performance at the Independence Square. He appeared as an angel but performed like ‘kakai’

Perhaps, it was in anticipation of another wow factor that got thousands of loyalists waiting patiently for well over four hours for the ‘Kakai’ star.

Instead, he appeared on stage in an all-white outfit with wings like an an angel but got his fans charged as he turned on the style with a signature performance as he sang to a backing live band, sharing the stage with some of his close friends such as Sarkodie, Pope Skinny and Duke of D2 who came to support the Dancehall King.

For patrons of last Friday’s high-pitch performance, it was worth the wait as there was never a dull moment for them. The large crowd was treated to a documentary of the award-winning artiste, from his early struggles as a musician known then as Bandanna before staging a big comeback as Shatta Wale.

Right after the documentary was a premiere of his Kakai video which to me is the best video of Shatta Wale.

Backed by the Patch Bay band, Shatta Wale surprised most people when he perfomed with a live a band. In fact, he gave a good account of himself disabusing the minds of people including myself who doubted that he can perform with a live band.

Although he did not do live music throughout the night, Shatta just thrilled. He perfomed songs such Korle Gonno, Dancehall King, Shatta City, You Can’t Touch Me, Enter The Net, My Homeland, Mi A Evil and Real Hustle, burning up the the Independent Square as patrons danced and sang along with him.

The crowd was further wowed when Sarkodie joined Shatta on stage, performing Dancehall Commando and Me Gye Wo Girl. Shatta ended his act performing with Kakai and Chop Kiss with live band.

But for the late start, Shatta’s album launch concert which had Joel of YFM as MC and DJ Verusky on the turn table was a very good show.
