TMZ reports the rapper, real name Earl Simmons, was found 'not breathing' and 'without a pulse' in New York on Monday night.
A source told the site he was outside his hotel room at Ramada Inn when he began complaining of a pain in his chest. Police responded to a call about an 'unconscious male' just after 6pm, and when they arrived on the scene they began CPR until his pulse returned.
Simmons is said to have received treatment at a nearby hospital.
TMZ add that DMX 'appears to be in a stable condition and at this time, no criminal charges are expected.'
Metro.co.uk have contacted the rapper's rep for comment, but X has since confirmed to TMZ that he 'remembers having shortness of breath after suffering bronchitis for a couple of days'.
When the news of Simmons' condition first broke, rapper Ja Rule tweeted 'Prayers up for my brother'.
