NOV 26, 2015 LISTEN

Popular broadcast journalist with Hello FM in Kumasi, Adwoa Aprebi, has appealed to Ghanaian women to muster the courage to discuss their genital problems with their partners to promote healthy relationships.

Adwoa, a Genecure Ambassador, said most women who suffer from genital infections and other similar diseases including bad body odour but fail to discuss the problems with their husbands create anxiety in their relationships, which could lead to separation or divorce.

'This is because when wives feel shy to communicate their sexual health issues, their husbands misconstrue them; and this breeds domestic infractions leading to violence,' Adwoa Aprebi said in a statement.

The Genecure ambassador issued the statement as the world marks today, November 25, 2015 as the 'World Violence Day Against Women' to draw the attention of women to the need to practise good communication with their husbands and partners.

'Communication is a very powerful tool for women as far as the growth of their marriages and relationships is concerned but they have failed to take the utmost advantage of it,' she said.

She bemoaned the frequent physical, psychological and emotional violent attacks on women by their male counterparts from infancy through to adulthood.

In the opinion of Adwoa Aprebi, most women will be free from these violent attacks if they learn to regularly share their problems with their spouses.

She noted that most women go through a whole lot of cultural drawbacks in society, citing douching which is forced on young girls as one of the prejudices against women.

'This practice (douching) serves as a common punishment for girls in the least offence committed in the homes. But research has shown that more girls grow to experience all forms of genital deformities and perpetual sexually transmitted infections,' she said.

'This is why as an Ambassador of Genecure, I want to encourage my fellow women to come out of their fear to break the norms by confidently sharing their plight.  Women, I am charging you to also feel free to go to any Rocare offices to explain your problems. Also, in seeking cure, there is the need to hunt for the right medication in order not to complicate your problems,' she added.
