Ghana Theatre Festival Opens

The 2015 edition of Ghana Theatre Festival opened yesterday with a variety of outreach performances and workshops in Accra.

Dubbed 'Creative Arts: Re-thinking the Contemporary', the festival will feature live stage performances, outreach programmes to various schools, screening   of productions by students of National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), furniture fairs and workshops for young artistes.

Today will feature outreach programmes in selected senior high schools by resident groups of the National Theatre.

These include National Dance and Drama Companies and the National Symphony Orchestra.

Tomorrow, the National Drama Company will perform 'Ananse in the Land of Woods', a play written by the late Yaw Asare and directed by Dr Grace Adinku at the National Theatre as part of the Theatre for Schools Programme.

The festival will officially open on Thursday, October 15 with a workshop facilitated by playwright Ebo Whyte, followed by a performance of a play titled 'Illusions' by Ben Production House.

Friday will also witness a screening of films by students of NAFTI and a performance of 'King's Dilemma' by the National Dance Company and a concert by the National Symphony Orchestra.

The Drama Department of The University of Education (Winneba) will on Saturday, October 17 perform a play titled 'Figments of Your Imagination'.

'Flagstaff House' – a stand-up comedy, will be performed by Nyansapo, a young dynamic group based in Accra.

The festival will end on Sunday, October 18 with a performance of 'Forbidden', a play by Ebo Whyte of Roverman Productions.

Stanbic IBTC Bank, Ghana Tourism Authority, Roverman Productions, VFL and Zenith Bank are sponsoring the festival.
