Controversial Film Producer and show host of Movie Chat room on Crystal TV has registered his displeasure on his Facebook wall over the promotion of sexual acts in our English styled or glamour movies.

He is of the view that, some Ghanaian movie producers have considered veering into pornography since it has become a lucrative venture. But, he describes the move as laughable since movies produced in the English style are already displaying extremely explicit content.

Below is the post:

Porn movies in Ghana?

I hear some producers are saying they will soon start shooting and distributing porn movies in Ghana. Is it not a laughable statement? Are they not already doing it? How many movies in Ghana especially the English movies that do not promote sex? Please let’s get real.”

Upon contacting him over the post, this was the conversation that ensued between us:

Faj: Hello Sir. Please, I need your help. I’m making a story on your recent post on Facebook and I wish to ask you a few questions if you don’t mind. It’s about the promotion of sex in the locally produced English movies.

Frank: What’s the question my brother?

Faj: Do you think these English styled films reflect life of Ghanaians? Explain your answer!

Frank: To some extent yes! The sex scenes they portray in the movies reflect the life of Ghanaians. As far as I am concerned; majority of Ghanaians are morally corrupt. The movie industry itself is where sex reigns supreme. We cannot deny that! People enjoy sex scenes because it is part of their lives.

Faj: Why do you think sex should not be portrayed in these movies? What if sex is portrayed to teach the audience? Or is it because you are a man of God?

Frank: I am not against sex scenes because I am a man of God. When you create a scene in a movie, you must consider what effect it would have on the audience. Like I said some time ago; sex scenes in our movies are not necessary to educate or to address any important issue. It is mainly because; it is mostly what producers use to sell their product. Besides, you can tell a sex story without going to the extreme. What exactly are the messages in those movies?

Faj: What then do you think can be done to correct these acts? And what advice can you give to the movie industry in general?

Frank: Simply put! The movie industry to a great extent lack people who have the understanding of these three basic things that a movie does. To Educate, to Inform and to Entertain. Only few drivers in the industry understand this. For the rest, it is fun and money making venture. No more and no less, if we want to correct it, it would start with the regulatory agencies, censor boards. We may not be able to control how people think but we surely can decide what they give us by means of censoring and rating.

It is important that movies are censored and rated so it can be viewed by the right audience. If the Producers don’t care, we should. Finally, I think we have too many telenovelas in Ghana. It is killing the industry. Something must be done to checkmate the influx of these foreign stuffs into our system. Thank you!

Faj: Thank you so much for your time.
