DJ Nana Kwame, a popular radio Dj and presenter with the Radio and Television Personality (RTP) award-winning radio station, Rainbow Radio International 87.5fm base in Accra and London has announced a change of his showbiz name to DJ SLASH years after using the name DJ Nana Kwame.

Born Abraham Akwaboah, the DJ has spent the last few months to come up with the showbiz name, DJ SLASH.

According to the talented and very versatile radio presenter, the change of name has become necessary because he wanted a new identity for easy recall.

“It has been my nickname since I was in the Secondary School (POJOSS) and I also think it sinks well because people quickly switch to it when they realized I am called that. No one also uses that in the industry and it will make me stand out”.

DJ SLASH started his radio carrier in 2007 with the Fotobi-based Fawe fm, where he used to play all round music such as hip life, highlife, hi-pop, reggae, among the rest.

Due to his splendid mixture of music and the flare for both English and Twi languages, Rainbow Radio poached DJ SLASH in the year 2012 when it launched in Accra.

DJ SLASH wooed his listeners between the hours of 11:30am to 1pm from Mondays to Wednesdays.

The affable DJ recently opted to play at night and when asked about the reasons he explained “the morning was not pushing the brand I want to build”.

“There are interjections around this time so there was not flow in what I wanted to do. I saw the opportunity at night between the hours of 10pm and 1am from Mondays to Fridays with a unique program around that time period.”

DJ SLASH added that “I opted for the night to give more life to night radio and to revolutionize night time radio which comes with a combination of music and discussions of social issues such as drug abuse, masturbation, alcoholism, among others” on a very powerful night time radio show called MP3, built together with his audience called #TeamNoSleep with the slogan More…VIM…!!!

DJ Slash is also the host of ‘Total Request Live (TRL)’, a phone in program on Rainbow Radio every Saturday between the hours of 9:30am to 12noon.

DJ SLASH had his first Degree in Theater Art and Music from the University of Ghana, Legon and also recently graduated with Coventry University, United Kingdom with a Master of Science (MSc) in Management Information Systems.

In the next five years to come, Akwaboah wants the name DJ SLASH be a household name in Ghana and the rest of the world.

“I want my name to be part of the first five celebrities in Ghana and beyond for the next five years”.

Tune in to Rainbow Radio International 87.5fm Mondays to Thursdays between the hours of 10pm to 1am and listen to DJ SLASH, and on Saturdays between the hours of 9:30am to 12noon for the Total Request show.
