I am disappointed in NDC - Lucky Mensah

Ghanaian highlife musician Alex Mensah known in showbiz circles as Lucky Mensah says he is disappointed in the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Lucky Mensah says the NDC deserted him after he composed a song that served as the theme for the party's elections 2012 campaign.

According to him, the ruling party has not shown any appreciation for the work he did in ensuring that it retained power.

“My song had a big influence in retaining the NDC party in power but the leaders and executives of the party, instead of appreciating my good works, have rather neglected me,” he stated on Adom FM’s Entertainment Hall on Saturday.

Despite his reputation for composing political songs, Lucky Mensah disclosed that he does not hold any party card.

“I don’t belong to any political party, I don’t even vote nor have any party’s ID card,” he declared.

Lucky Mensah released “Nkratuo” in 2010 to criticize the NDC administration but in a dramatic turnaroud in 2012, he released “Atta beye ama mo’ (Atta will do it for you), a song praising then NDC candidate John Evans Atta Mills.

In a further twist, the musician released a single titled “Esi Araba” in 2013 which subtly questioned the ability of the Mahama-led government to deliver, especially as the president’s former boss, the late John Mills was seen in some circles as having failed to deliver.

But the “Old School” hit maker says his experience with the NDC has taught him a bitter lesson and he is unlikely to ever venture into political song-making again.

He has since released two new singles featuring hiplife artists Guru and Kofi Kinaata.

Meanwhile, Lucky Mensah has dismissed rumours that he is broke and lives from hand to mouth, citing his ownership of a 15 bedroom apartment.

“I am not broke or hungry as many Ghanaians are speculating,” he added.
