Owner of Ghbase.com, Chris Handler says he believes that there is more to the extortion allegation by Blacks Stars captain Asamoah Gyan against Ghbase journalist, Anthony Osarfo.

“The case is a very complex one... sometimes trying to explain yourself is hard, there is more to it so we just have to wait for the CID officer to come out with his charge then after that we can talk,” he said.

Chris was speaking in an interview on Daybreak Hitz (Showbiz Review) Black I on Hitz FM Friday.

Anthony, who is also the Deputy Editor of Razz newspaper, was picked up by the Airport police on Wednesday, July 29, 2014 for allegedly trying to blackmail the football star.

According to reports, Osarfo is alleged to have threatened to make public some damaging recordings of Asamoah Gyan in the rape and sodomy allegation made by a 22-year-old university student, Sarah Kobla if a sum of GHc25,000 was not handed to him [Anthony].

Commenting on how he and his outfit are handling the development, Chris said “The whole thing comes as a surprise and there are different stories out there portraying it in a different way.”

“But from what we hear, they are saying that is an issue of Blackmail,” he explained.

Anthony supposedly signed a contract which had the letterhead of Ghbase.com with Asamoah Gyan’s team.

When asked whether he was aware that the contract signed by his reporter had the letterhead of ghbase.com, Chris said, “that is something we are yet to look at, so I cannot conclusively say that for now.”

The extortion process was purportedly recorded secretly on video while Osarfo Anthony was receiving the cash from Asamoah Gyan’s manager, Samuel Anim Addo on Wednesday night.

Prior to his arrest, it was alleged that the suspect previously collected various sums of money - GHc5,000, $1000, and a cheque for GHc15,000 - as part payment.
