Nana Ama Odame Okyere, second runner up in the 2014 edition of Ghana's Most Beautiful (GMB), has embarked upon a three day tree planting exercise, in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Service Personnel Tree Planting Initiative (NSPTPI).

The group, numbering more than 30, planted 500 trees along the Awoshie -Pokuase road in the Ga Central Municipal Assembly.

Nana Ama odame Okyere, founder of Ama Odame Okyere Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), expressed her gratitude to the EPA for partnering with her in an effort to protecting the environment.

She mentioned that her interest to participate in the Miss Earth contest no doubt inspired her further to initiate such a project as her contribution to helping to save the environment.

The beauty queen also urged Ghanaians to join the national crusade against insanitary practices so that the country would be very clean, adding, 'In this way, flooding and diseases related to filth will be prevented.'

Acting Director of EPA in-charge of Accra West, Mrs Sally Biney, assured the foundation that the EPA municipal staff would nurture the seedlings till they are properly rooted in the soil.

Chairman for NSPTPI, Faisal Seidu, reiterated the importance of tree planting exercise to the sustenance of life, adding that trees play useful roles in life beside their medicinal, dietary and other benefits.
