Ghana’s Most Beautiful Baci, To The Rescue Of Child Education

She hails from Kowie, a small village in Tumu in the Upper West Region. She schooled in Tamale Bishop Roman Catholic School and Tamale Secondary School and completed at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale.

This is the story of TV3 Ghana's Most Beautiful for the year 2014, Miss Abigail Baciara Bentie, who is now on a path to shape education as a beauty ambassador.

Popularly regarded as 'Baci', she on Saturday 30th May, 2015 launched an educational initiave as part of humanitarian activities under her foundation Malol-lol.

The Foundation has the prime objects to make the school environment conducive for teaching and learning in order to keep children in school; reducing overcrowding in schools by expanding school buildings including shaping schools under trees and increase enrolment opportunities for physically challenged children.

It would also seek among others, to provide incentives for teachers particularly those in deprived communities; make access to teaching and learning materials including ICT tools to pupils; improving school management and governance structures with support of all stakeholders i.e. parents, teachers, assemblymen and women, traditional leaders, policy makers, religious and civil society groups among others.

Throwing more light on the project she said she represented her region as a living case study of what good education can do for other young people with little or no hope of making it higher in education and an improvement to what their parents could offer.

"I believe that education is the critical element in improving the well-being of the country’s growing population and it is in this quest that the Malol-lol Foundation seeks to mobilise human, financial and social resources to contribute to that better education for children in this country particularly those in deprived communities," she emphaized.

She further added that it would reach out and tap into the potential and magnanimity of all Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians to bring on board volunteers from tertiary institutions, workers and friends who share similar vision to visit various schools across the country and help teach for free on days that will be set aside by the foundation.

She is also seeking to support various schools with some donations, volunteer to paint school buildings, offer free ICT education, participate in general hygiene campaigns and reproductive healthcare advocacy and also encourage reading culture among basic school children in communities etc.

The Malol-lol Foundation launch was used as a fund raising platform to support the initiative.

Touching on the strategy, she revealed that the foundation in its immediate term will take a look at the development of a reading culture and healthcare campaign on contagious diseases and advocating good hygienic practices aspects of the action plan.

"It is important to state that Ghana has contributed into my upbringing and for whom I am today, and I know for most people here to the same goes for you. It's time to give back but in a different way which could see my junior sister or brother enjoy schooling with better exposure.

...I want to thank TV3 for that big platform on national TV though prime time is very expensive. My fun base in Ghana and across, in person and on social media's have all being waiting for this day. As Ghana's most beautiful winner for the year 2014, Samara pharmacy has started a good work as part of my project by distributing free exercise books in the Upper East, Upper West and Northern regions.

I thank all corporate bodies, NGOs, religious and traditional leaders, District Assemblies, friends, individuals, fans and acquaintances who have supported me and my team to get this far. I say thank you to all once more.

About Malol-lol Ghana Foundation
Malol-lol Ghana Foundation is the project work of the 2014 winner of the Ghana’s Most Beautiful beauty pageant, Miss Abigail Baciara Bentie, popularly known as Baci. This has been her vision for entering the pageant, which she pursued with hard work and diligence, and eventually emerging as the winner of the prestigious beauty show organized by TV3 Network to ‘Redefine Beauty To Promote National Unity’.

‘Malol-lol’ is a Sisala word which literally means ‘Thank you’. Sisala is a language spoken by the people of the Upper West Region; the Region which Baci, represented in the season VIII of the Ghana’s Most Beautiful Reality show. Baci chose the word ‘Malol-lol’ as the name of her foundation as a way of saying ‘Thank you to the people of the Upper West Region and Ghana, for the tremendous support she has received so far throughout the contest and even after.

The aim of the foundation is to promote basic education, making it accessible to children, both male and female across the whole of Ghana; beginning from the Upper West Region.
