MUSIGA Holds Workshop For National And Regional Executives

Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), with sponsorship from the International Federation of Musicians (FIM), has held a three-day workshop on capacity building for the national and regional executives of the union at the MJ Grand Hotel in Accra.

The International Federation of Musicians is a grouping of musician unions from around the world with over 62 countries represented.

Addressing the participants, the former Vice President of the International Federation of Musicians (FIM), Alhaij Sidiku Buari, commended FIM for its continued support for the development of the Ghanaian music industry.

The former MUSIGA president urged all the participants to return to impart whatever knowledge they have acquired at the workshop to their members in their various regions.

He expressed his happiness about the long-term relationship that has existed between MUSIGA and FIM, and how the two groups are creating opportunities for musicians and stakeholders in the Ghanaian music industry.

Deputy General Secretary for FIM, Thomas Dayan, who also addressed the participants, called on the government to ratify the Beijing Treaty on Audio Visual Performances which is crucial for the development of the arts.

He also commended the government for the merger of the tourism, culture and creative industries.

On her part, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Dzifa Gomashie, called on performers to ensure that they exemplify Ghanaian culture in their performances.

MUSIGA President Bice Osei-Kuffour urged the participants to participate fully in the discussions to enable them to benefit from it.

He also advised them to remain committed to the development of the union.
