Hello and welcome to a piece of peace, your weekly dose of motivation and inspiration. This week I would like to share on the topic of “Re-Programming your beliefs”. Let me start by asking, what’s the #1 limiting belief that is holding you back in life? Our beliefs have a strong influence on how far we go in life. Every person is motivated by a set of perceptions, which form our belief system.

We do not believe in the actual truth but rather the perception of the truth, which means if we choose to believe in the wrong thing, our focus, drive, ambition and ultimately success is affected forever. This perception is created by the society and environment we find ourselves in.

They dictate to us who we are and what we are capable of. If your science teacher tells you that you are weak in science, then guess what you are going to believe about yourself? - That you are dumb when it comes to science. If you failed in your first business venture then you believe you are a failure in business so you might as well stick to your regular 9 to 5 job.

We base the perception of ourselves and our surroundings on the knowledge we’ve gathered over the years oblivious to the fact that these beliefs might simply be lies we tell our-selves.

Your beliefs become self-fulfilling prophecies. The problem we have as a whole is, we choose to believe in BS. We form conclusions based on the gathered knowledge of other similar people who have wrong beliefs and thus perceptions as well. In effect we have a situation of the blind leading the blind. We choose for truths that actively limit our ability for greatness and how far God has destined for you to go. We chase realities that are socially acceptable and do not rub people off the wrong way less anyone hates us and ultimately we choose to live in a world where mediocrity is the order of the day and where you know your place otherwise you get pulled down.

So, now that we have defined the problem, it is important to make a side note here. People are only happy to support you in the beginning when they know your limitations and how far they think you can go. No great achiever in this world, had support when they started. They faced resistance and in the face of the resistance, their persistent beliefs pushed them to achieve the abnormal. How do you change your belief system from a failure to that of a winner?

Beliefs are consequently determined and changed by 3 key factors:

1. Our perception- what we see as truth.
2. Our references- the proof we use to back our truth up.

3. Time- The transition between two beliefs.
In order to change your perception you need to override what you currently believe through self-suggestion, thus you create the perception you want to have about your self and about your life.

Our references (proof) can be built by vividly visualizing them in action. According Maxwell Maltz in his book called “Psycho-Cybernetics”,

“The human nervous system cannot tell the difference between an actual experience and one imagined vividly and in detail.”

So by practicing the beliefs we want in our mind, we’re able to build up experiences BEFORE we actually go out and apply them.

If you want to believe you are more confident, smart, attractive, simply vividly imagine yourself acting and being EXACTLY how you would want to be in each situation. Keep persisting until your new, empowering belief becomes your standard thought-pattern.

And finally when it comes to Time, fake it until you build up enough references to start believing in it. Time, therefore is the last factor for changing beliefs. It is the gradual change agent between two conflicting beliefs. So persisting is key here.

Over time, our new empowering belief will take the place of our old, disempowering belief. This is the same way as you build new habits. When we continuously use willpower to reach a desired action, it will become habitual over time. And remember to always be yourself because everyone else is taken.

Much Love
