THE ASANTEHENE, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was treated to a beautiful parade of different cultures from 29 countries in Victoria, capital of Seychelles Island, on Saturday.

This was during the second day of the 2015 Carnival International de Victoria, where participating countries displayed their cultures through dressing, music and dance.

The Asante Monarch, who was the special guest of honour for the colourful event, was seated in state, surrounded by a large retinue of Asante chiefs and servants.

Seated directly opposite Otumfuo was the President of Seychelles Island, James Michel, who was with some of the top officials in his administration and other selected dignitaries from across the globe.

Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare and Kojo Bonsu, the Kumasi Mayor, were also present at the historic programme where different cultures assembled.

One after the other, representatives of the 29 countries, drawn from all parts of the world including Ghana, displayed their rich culture through music and dance.

Otumfuo, who appeared pleased and excited about the display being put up, was seen intermittently nodding his head in admiration.

He was even seen singing along with the Spanish delegation who electrified the place with scintillating music, which attracted spontaneous applause.

The German delegation spiced up their beautiful display with the presentation of a medal and other items to the Asante Monarch, who willingly accepted them.

The highlight of the show was when the Minister of Tourism, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, danced to Adowa tunes as she led the Ghanaian delegation to the parade grounds.

The loud applause and shouts that greeted the Ghanaian delegation nearly turned the foundation of the venue upside down.

The Asantehene seemed thrilled about the display the Ghanaian contingent exhibited, as he continually nodded his head to show his appreciation.

The Asante King and the dignitaries present did not give speeches during the programme which attracted massive patronage from all over the world.

This year’s Carnival International de Victoria is the fifth edition. It is organised by the Seychelles Island government to boost the tourism industry of the country.

Countries such as the US, the UK, Brazil, India, Germany, Spain, Ivory Coast, Italy, South Africa, Swaziland, Ghana, Cambodia, China, just to mention a few, were represented.
