Kiki Benson Speaks Fondly of Sarkodie
20.04.2015 LISTEN

On Friday evening, multiple award-winning radio host and manager, Kiki Benson was on Viasat One's Boys-Boys show which was hosted by Kojo Frempong where he talked about the Ghanaian entertainment industry and more.

When asked by the host which Ghanaian musician he can bet his last coin on, he said,

'Sarkodie, I think he is on a mission to reach greater heights, the goals he sets for himself are very big. Sark is a cut-across artist; he has been able to cut across the various demographics. He is still relevant, very consistent, and absolutely creative, indeed, he is just one of a kind.'

He added that Sarkodie would have been big by now if the various structures within the Ghanaian music industry are working, and that the marketing structures are just not there. He also added that MUSIGA's president Bice Osei Kuffour particularly has to kick some workers out and employ the know-how people to manage the affairs at MUSIGA.

When asked by the host what's his view with respect to the Ghanaian music industry now, he said, 'It is in shambles, there is nothing happening now, there is no direction, there is no structure, our guys are now more creative but they can't earn from their creative works.'

Kiki Benson on how radio stations can change the Ghanaian music scene disclosed that, 'even Kwesi Twum of Multimedia and Kwame Despite, these two individuals can even affect our Ghanaian musicians in a positive way. Both can reach an agreement that we are selecting these three (3) musicians, and on our various radio and TV stations, we are going to promote their works massively by more or less playing 90% of their songs, we are reducing playing of foreign songs on our various stations. Just look at the way Nigerian radio and TV stations have done if for P Square, D Banj, Femi Kuti, 2Face'.

He added that Sarkodie and the others can play like 2-3 shows for them for free; both would even make more money just in 18 months than the selling of airtime.

Kiki Benson is no stranger to the Ghanaian entertainment sector; he is the host of late afternoon drive on Peace fm, former manager of Becca, has his own security management company- AVATAR Company, responsible for running night clubs like Boomerang night club, Cinderella night club, has his own Platinum TV station and more.

He advised Ghanaian musicians to learn to be discipline, educate themselves with respect to how they can make more money and plan as well.
