Wilmar Africa, producers of the world's most loved cooking oil Frytol, introduce Tales of Ananse (TOA) to local Ghanaian communities.
As part of an effort to inspire communities and revamp folktales and storytelling in the country, Frytol has embarked on a 12 day campaign titled Tales of Ananse.
Tales of Ananse is set to motivate people to come out of their homes and socialize with their neighbors in times of "dumsor"
There is a story teller and a Queenmother present, who speak local languages best understood by people in the communities. Also drummers and dancers in addition to the exciting story being told
Last weekend, the Frytol train was in Darkuman where they gave residents something exciting to cheer home about. Children were dancing and singing during the entire event
The initiative according to Margareta Naa Adoley Allotey, an Accounts Manager at Sixth Sense Manifesto, is to promote a culture we once knew, where elders would tell stories to the younger children in the communities as they gather around fire
She revealed that they have illuminated branded pickup truck driving through 3rd class residential areas, and make a stop at locations to engage citizens with ananse story, drumming and dancing.
“This campaign is mainly focusing on the 'dumsor' and getting people out of their houses when it is dark outside. The concept is based upon what our forefathers and grandparents used to do in telling stories that influenced the upbringing of children.
.....This computer age has led people to forget about true Ghanaian cultures and traditions which is why Frytol decided to embark on this campaign to bring back the folktale culture of Ghanaians,” Margareta Naa Adoley Allotey told ModernGhana in an interview.
