As a leader who has excelled in the economic empowerment of her people, NanaAmuah-AfenyiVI , known formally as King Peggy has beenhonored with the Dr. Dorothy I. Height Leadership Award .

The awards ceremony was held at the Willard Hotel in Washington DC on January 18, 2015 as part of activities marking the birthday of the late Martin Luther King.

The annual awards ceremony was started in 1991, to honor the extraordinary legacy of the famed civil right leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the legendary, Dr. Dorothy I. Height and their impacts both at home and abroad.

Dorothy Height, was a leader of the African-American and women's rights movements who was considered both the Grande dame of the civil rights era.

Nigerian Ambassador and Honorary Chair of the 2015 Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Awards ceremony, Prof. Adebowale Adefuye, honored six eminent Africans and African-Americans who have contributed to the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., through their efforts in economic empowerment, National and International service, Civil Engagement, Advocacy & Justice and Philanthropy.

The honorees included; King Peggy (Peggieliene Bartels), who was honored with Dr. Dorothy I. Height Leadership Award. The other recipients were decorated with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Awards in the following categories: Honorable John Conyers, Jr, National Service; William R. 'Billy' Martin, Advocacy And Justice; Igho Charles Sanomi II, International Service; Frank. F. Islam, International Service and Civil Engagement and Benedict Peters, Economic Empowerment.

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Chief Edem Duke attended the event with a special greeting and message from Nigeria.

Nana Amuah-AfenyiVI ,(King Peggy) a United States resident is the lady king of the Ebiradzi royal family of Otuam in the Mfantsiman Municipal District, Ghana. Following the death of her uncle, in 2008, she was chosen to replace him.

Nana Peggy spends a lot of time in her community in Ghana each year and engages in income generating ventures and developmental projects to support her people.

Through the instrumentality of King Peggy the village of Otuam can now boast an ambulance to support emergency care services . In addition to that a 12 room State-Of-An-Art Western–Style-Lavatory of convenience has been build with a two unit shower for the men.

Also King Peggy has spearheaded the enrollment of about 50 children in private school. These students also have access to free meals in school.

Some of the women in the village of Otuam today have been granted microfinance loans by the 100 Black Coalition Women of California to engage in income generating ventures to support themselves and their families. King Peggy is a staunch Christian and a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Maryland.

In May 22, 2010 Shiloh Baptist Church entered into Covenant to adopt Otuam King Peggy's town as its spiritual and developmental responsibility. In October 2010Pastor Colleton who was in charge of the Foreign Mission Ministry led eleven members of the Church to Otuam for the dedication of three clean water boreholes to the Otuam community. One of the boreholes was provided by the members of Shiloh Baptist Church. As at now the Community have Seven boreholes.

Pastor Colleton continues to work diligently to bring additional organizations to aid in the support of Shiloh's mission in Otuam. During the same mission trip, Pastor Colleton and his delegation distributed an abundance of eyeglasses to the people of the Otuam community. The glasses were generously donated by Shiloh members and friends. Additionally, Spirit and Truth Worship Center in California and Sight Ministries International assisted with the donation.

In spite of all these King Peggy is not relenting in her efforts to see to the improvement in the lives of her people.
