Ghanaian actor and president of the Ghana Actors Guild, Nii Odoi Mensah has to cough up $300 weekly to stay live.

Doctors have declared both kidneys incapable of performing their key functions effectively to keep him alive.

To stay alive, the actor has to spend $300 weekly on dialysis.

His case came to public after the death of Nollywood actor, Muna Obiekwe. The Nigerian actor died Sunday, January 18 at age 36 after he lost his battle with a kidney disease.

Nii Odoi Mensah in a video, while receiving a donation from actress Juliet Ibrahim, disclosed that “I'm a chronic kidney patient,” and called for public support to get medical treatment.

Juliet Ibrahim, who posted the video on her Instagram page, added the caption: “My last donation to veteran actor Nii Odoi Mensah who is now a chronic kidney failure patient. He is in need of your help he has lost both kidneys. He has been going through this all alone till he realized he alone can't pay his hospital bills which cost per dialysis 100 usd 3 times a week for the rest of his life. Both @tommy__cann and Mr Odoi Mensah are patients of www.julietibrahimfoundation.org #kidneyawarenessit can happen to anybody prevention is better than cure friends.”

The actress told Myjoyonline.com in an interview that she made the donation in December 2014 and it was funds raised from her charity costume party by her foundation – the Juliet Ibrahim Foundation.

She noted that she uses the event to raise funds to support the medical treatment of those in need in the society.

According to the award winning actress, she raised GHc5,000 which she shared among three persons – including Nii Odoi Mensah.

Juliet said the treatment for kidney diseases, which are now rampant, is expensive and called on public awareness and support for persons suffering from the disease.

She disclosed that “we are currently working on something to help raise enough funds for him to get a transplant,” and she is hoping to involve her colleagues to make that dream a reality. Story by Ghana | Myjoyonline.com | Ernest Dela Aglanu (Twitter: @delaXdela / Instagram: citizendela)
