Mona Quartey, Ben Brako, George Ofosuhene discuss life since 80s

It appears so much has changed since the early 80s and 90s, a situation Deputy Finance Minister Mona Quartey, Ace Musician Ben Brako and Managing Director of Bond Financial Services, George Ofosuhene have alluded to.

All three panelists say things have improved since they were kids and that it was interesting to see how young people relate with each other and how different their attitudes are from theirs.

The three personalities said this in a discussion ón Boxind Day edition of the Super Morning Show hosted by Chief Executive Officer of Tropical Cables and Conductors, Tony Oteng Gyasi.

In the Deputy Minister's view, things are classier than they used to be and young people are expecting more classic and refined things than those in the 80s yearned for.

“The younger folks have taken things a notch higher than it used to. For them, everything has to be super posh and they seem a little more intense that what happened some time past.”

She said previously young people were not so enthused about wearing designer clothes or having posh cars, but recently the kind of car a person drives, determines their class and the kind of people who relate with them.

Decency was the most important thing to them then but now everything is different, she noted.

Mrs Quartey said she was impressed with the way young girls are able to make bold decisions for themselves, especially when it comes to choosing partners.

“Young girls now want to go out with someone they see a future in. They want to be sure that their partner's career choices fit with theirs before they proceed with a relationship,”

Ace musician, Ben Brako in agreement with the deputy minister said that even though it was good that girls are standing up for themselves, some of them tend to “depend too much on men and they are sometimes attracted to you because of what you have and what they can get from you.”

In the music industry, Mr Brako said music has also been affected by the changing trends and the improvement in technology has made things a lot easier than before.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Bond Financial Services, George Ofosuhene said that even though technology has improved, the contents of lyrics in some of the music in the country were appalling.

“Right now you can't understand most of the music and I ask myself questions when I hear them. I find it difficult to listen to those kinds of music when they are being played.”

He also said that technology has improved the lives of people and made relationships simpler than what it was during the 80s and 90s.
