Sad loss: Kelly Rowland's (right) mother, Doris Rowland Garrison (left), died on Tuesday at age 66 – the two appeared in this photo on Mother's Day 2012.

Singer Kelly Rowland has experienced both the beginning and the end of life in a span of less than one month.

Her mother, Doris Rowland Garrison, died on Tuesday at the age of 66 only a few weeks after the birth of Kelly's first son, Titan Jewell Weatherspoon.

The 33-year-old singer said in a statement released to the  Associated Press  on Wednesday that her mother was 'an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices.'

Additionally sad is the fact that Doris died only a few days before her 67th birthday on December 6.

Although no cause of death has been announced, Kelly's mother passed away in her hometown of Atlanta.

Kelly and her older brother, Orlando, were raised almost exclusively by Doris after their parents divorced in 1988.

Kelly credited her mother's sacrifices as being instrumental to her success

Doris then took her children from their Atlanta home one year later and relocated the family to Houston.

By 1992, when Kelly was just 11 years old, she had joined a girl group called Girl's Tyme.

Others in the group included Beyonce Knowles and LaTavia Roberson – with Kelly, these two would eventually become the original Destiny's Child line-up.

Kelly and Doris stayed close as the daughter's star rose – the singer has posted several pictures with her mother on her Instagram account.

On one photo, dated October 21, 2013, Kelly wrote the caption: '#AlwaysMamasbaby Loves my Momma!'

With husband Tim Weatherspoon, Kelly gave Doris the gift of a grandson, Titan, on November 4.

In Kelly, Doris raised one of music's most successful women, both as a solo artist and as a member of Destiny's Child.

Kelly has released four solo studio albums (in addition to the four Destiny's Child records), the most recent being Talk A Good Game, which premiered in June 2013.

The famed singer has also created a major TV presence as a judge and mentor for The X-Factor in several countries.

Having previously appeared on German, Australian, and British versions of the show, Kelly was a judge when FOX brought the singing competition to the United States in 2013.
