Controversial hiplife artiste, Kwaw Kese, who was arrested by the police in Kumasi, for allegedly smoking cannabis in public has been remanded into prison.

He was whisked away into a police van and sent to the Kumasi Central Prison which will serve as his new home for two weeks until he returns to court.

The case was heard by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit Court Monday.

The court, presided over by Judge William Boampong remanded him to reappear on December 8 after persecutors argued that they were still investigating the matter.

The controversial musician was arrested Saturday around 11pm at a wine shop close to Plus Two pub at Nhyiaseo, a suburb of Kumasi.

ASP Charles Appiah, Head of Drug Law Enforcement Unit told Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor, that the rapper "was sitting in an open place in front of the wine shop with other friends and he was smoking cannabis."

He explained that a police patrol team saw him smoking the cannabis and consequently arrested him. "We all know cannabis and he will not deny, he hasn't denied," the policeman said.

The self-styled King of the Streets was put before court and formally charged with using narcotic drug without lawful authority

The rapper with his lawyer, Nana Kwasi Boaitey, whose application for bail was refused by the court.

ASP Mohammed Tanko, Ashanti Regional Police PRO speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM earlier, said Kwaw Kese could face a minimum of 10 years' imprisonment if found guilty.
