Akumaa Mama Zimbi Receives Doctorate Award

Odo Ahumasuo anchor and veteran actress Akumaa Mama Zimbi remains one of the few Ghanaian showbiz personalities whose contributions towards women empowerment won't go unnoticed.

The Bishop Gilson University, United Kingdom, on Saturday conferred an honorary doctorate award on Akumaa at an event held at Miracle Centre at Kwabenya, a suburb of Accra.

The award was in recognition of her contribution towards educating and building marriages, promoting women and youth development and leadership in the media. That is, however, not her first recognition in that regard.

'Receiving this Honorary Doctorate Award has truly humbled me. I dedicate it to you (media). Medaase,' she told NEWS-ONE yesterday. Akumaa has over the years dedicated her life to supporting widows, encouraging sex education and helping couples solve their marital problems among others.

She has the Widows Alliance Network (WANE) project for sustainable socio-economic development of widows in Ghana, one of the projects undertaken by her Mama Zimbi Foundation (MZF).

She used every platform she had in the media to encourage women to be strong. With her widows project she helps widows to establish small-scale businesses to carry on with their lives.

No wonder she is being recognised.
