Following the recent sudden deaths of a number of Ghanaian celebrities such as Komla Dumor, Irene Nana Aba Asante, host of the movie chat room and Ronnie Coaches of the group BukBak, due to various heart related conditions, one Ghanaian celebrity Dj Iyce has decided to take matters into her own hands to create awareness about heart disease.

Dj Iyce together with Capital TV, last Saturday, launched a campaign dubbed the “Save Our Stars Campaign” which is focused on sensitizing Ghanaian celebrities about issues related to heart disease.

Dj Iyce expressed sadness at the rate at which Ghana was losing her young and vibrant celebrities who could have made an impact in the lives of people in the country. “These unfortunate instances moved myself and Capital TV to pick up the challenge of starting the “Save Our Stars Campaign” with an awareness of the causes and prevention of heart attack,” she said.

She announced that the yearlong campaign would involve a number of activities including a celebrity health walk and fitness day, health seminars and educational drives all across the country. She added that fundraising activities would also be held to raise money for sufferers of heart diseases.

Reggie Rockstone who was present at the launch lauded the initiative embarked on by Dj Iyce, adding that the subject of heart disease was not exclusive to the world of celebrities alone but was an issue which should be of concern to Ghanaians everywhere.

He said the rate at which young people in the country were dying was alarming and he called on the youth to make some lifestyle changes in order to arrest the situation.

“Just because you are fit and able to move about does not mean all is well with you. You need to undergo regular checkups as well as cut out some negative activities in order to remain healthy,” he said.

Reggie Rockstone was however disappointed that although the event was dedicated to the welfare of Ghanaian celebrities, none of the celebrities such as Kafui Danku, Bisa Kdei, Ayibgbe Edem and EL who were publicised to attend the event turned up.
