The faculty of Television Awards Ghana Festival 2014 have, after about 500 entries, finally cast their votes to nominate television personalities qualified for the October 10th television awards.

Members of the faculty of the awards scheme were on Friday 26th seen casting their votes to decide who stands tall for the coveted awards yet to come.

Among the 33 categories, 29 categories where reserved for the faculty members, who are made of 17 televisionsstations with two representatives from each television station to finally decide who takes home the ultimate prizes.

Journalists were told at a press briefing last two weeks that the remaining 4 categories which include most popular TV station of the year, the most popular TV host/hostess of the year, the most popular actor of the year and the most popular actress of the year would be decided by public.

The 4 categories were opened for popular vote meaning that the public can have the chances of deciding who qualifies for the awards through an electronic SMS voting system.

The Project Manager, Gideon KwamlaAyiadzo, at a media briefing told journalists that all the due processes for both manual voting and electronic voting werecarefully conducted by the EC and SMS-GH with the support of the police personnel to prevent any act that may undermine the exercise.

He added measures are put in place to ensure that PKF takes charge of the accounts in collaboration with SMS-GH and EC as a backup to prevent any compromised or lost data.

The Board of Trustees of the wards scheme, instituted the initiative for the first time and to enhance it further as an annual event for the industry players.

The awards scheme, made up of the Board of Trustee, the planning committee and the technical committee put up a Ghana Television Development Fund administered to provide adequate training; young people in the industry would be supported with the funds to comes out their own productions.

He indicated that the focus of the fund is geared towards production where attempts would be made to look at new programs and come out with systematic approaches in order to produces more quality programs.

Therefore, the fund will allow young people to submit their project concept to the fund managers for support.

Ernest QuayeArday, vice president of the faculty and General Manager of etv-GH said the faculty has engaged the government on the modalities of the production industry for support and therefore plans are far advanced.
