'TELEVISION AWARDS GHANA 2014' PRESENTS NOMINESS

The Television Awards Ghana 2014 has presented a special category list of nominees expected to pick specific awards for their selected category domain. The maiden edition of this award scheme is expected to crown some outstanding television industry performers in Ghana. The presentation was done at a press briefing in Accra.

The Television Awards Ghana 2014 which was officially launched in August this year aims at promoting core values in television broadcasting in Ghana. Proponents of the award scheme, Showtime production indicates there are thirty-three categories in all from various competitive angles which are divided into three specific center marks, being the Most Outstanding TV Show, the Most Outstanding TV Host and the Most Outstanding Actor/Actress (Television).

Questions are already being asked about the credibility of this new scheme considering past experiences from other similar awards schemes. Television Awards Ghana is supported by Showtime production who doubles as a production company with three TV shows on TV3, thereby questioning the credibility of the programme. The question is what if they give all the popular awards to their TV shows with the lie that they had the highest votes? The other question is about clarity and transparent of activities as some industry players may wish to know the background of the board of trustees, faculty and organizers of this award scheme and as to whether these boards could be sustained for years to come.

In order to authenticate the credibility of the new awards scheme, Chairman of the board of Trustee, Mr. Kofi Middleton Ments state that even before the public goes to vote for their arrived nominees on the 27th September 2014, measures are far advance to ensure a certain level of transparency in the process. He reveals that private bodies were contracted to do the coalition of the nominee listing which was later approved by the Electoral Commission.

According to Mr. Ments services of the Ghana Police Service are also included in order to protect the image of the awards scheme. He adds that his outfit has also created a support system- The Ghana TV Development Fund to motivate members of the industry to do more in their respective areas. He concluded saying 29 out of the total 33 total categories shall be voted on and decided by the faculty of the board of trustees while 4 shall be decided by votes from the public.

Most importantly, Project Manager of the new awards scheme, the Television Awards Ghana 2014, Gideon Kwamla Oyiadzo noted with emphasis the their programme is not in competition with any other award programme but only seek to set a standard in the industry. He believes his team has the full proof system in awarding the selected category nominees.
