KKC Celebrates Two Decades Of Hiplife Music In Tamale

Music duo KKC, otherwise known as DOUBLE KC over the weekend staged a mega music concert in Tamale to mark 20 years of hiplife music in Northern Ghana.

The group made up of Big Malik (Lil Malik) and Big Adams International who is now based in Canada are credited with originating rap music up north of Ghana and officially outdoored it in the year 1993 when they featured on the ‘’Cheer The Stars” album of America based Sirina Issah. However, their first album as artiste came out in the year 2001.

According to KKC they found it very necessary to come back to Ghana, specifically Tamale to mark two decades of an important milestone for rap music which they originated. They posited that hiplife in Northern Ghana have come a long way especially looking at the proliferation of hiplife artistes in Tamale and other parts of the north in recent times. ‘’One can now point to countless number of artistes in Tamale today who in many ways have been inspired and brought up by DOUBLE KC” Big Malik said.

George Cliff who together with Raphius Amigos had their Female Genital Mutilation song nominated for the 2014 VGMAs Music for Development is an iconic example. Rockly Mogli, Black Hero, King Dee, Sapark, Fawal, XDeen, Ataaka and host of others are other living examples.

Big Adams International and Big Malik have had a successful music career having graced national platforms such as Gold Blast (Now Music Music) on TV3, Agoroo on GTV and the GTV Big Breakfast Show.

DOUBLE KC had a successful event that has left memories in the minds of their large following in Tamale since they took their fans and patrons back into time by dropping them back to back hits till 4 am on Sunday. The show attracted an estimated twenty thousand people to the Tamale Taxi Rank last Saturday night.
