The eighth edition of Ghana's Most Beautiful (GMB) beauty contest has been launched in Cape Coast over the weekend, on Sunday 20th July 2014. Ghana's Most Beautiful is a TV3 flagship programme which started eight years ago with the sole aim of 'redefining beauty to promote national unity'.

The GMB contest seems to flourish every year in terms of its organization and the traditional authorities who get involved as well as the overwhelming endorsement of the programme by the people of Ghana.

This was manifested last Sunday at the Victoria Park in Cape Coast where traditional leaders including the Omanhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, who was also the chairman of the occasion, paramount Chiefs and Queens, and cultural troupes selected from all the ten regions of Ghana gathered to introduce their region's contestants.

In a speech, the chief executive officer (CEO) of TV3, Mr. Augustus Dickson, disclosed that Central Region was chosen as the venue for the launch of the GMB season viii because of the region's rich cultural and traditional values.

He said the traditions and customs of the region, including its numerous festivals and tourist attraction destination such as the Kakum National Park, are in line with the mission of the GMB contest, making it necessary to be chosen to host the launch.

Mr. Dickson thanked the traditional authorities as well as governmental organizations in the region for 'receiving and supporting them', expressing the hope that season viii of the contest will be a very successful one.

He emphasizedTV3's pledge to offer quality, educative and entertaining programmes to Ghanaians, to 'appreciate the beauty of customs and traditions of the people of Ghana'.

'This season will not only keep viewers glued to their seats, but also create the atmosphere of promoting national unity, I called to all Ghanaians to vote for their contestants to keep them in the show,' Mr. Dickson appealed.

Last year winner of the GMB show, Poka, from the Upper East Region, was there to support the launch and encourage the contestants to put up their best to be able to reach for the crown.

'There will be hard times and trying moments along the way, especially during evictions, but do not lose hope and continue to fight to the end,' she advised.

For the next thirteen weeks, the ladies will portray their regions to the Ghanaians and other parts of Africa to battle for the ultimate prize; the car, cash and crown.
