Hundreds Attend Spirit Fm’s Free Medical Screening

Hundreds of people turned up last Saturday for Spirit FM's maiden free medical screening at the station's premises in Kumasi. The strictly Christian radio station mixed 'counseling in the Christian way' with medical screening as a way of helping their cherished listeners in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi and its environs.

The screening which was partly sponsored by Westward Tv, manufacturers of special LED televisions and Overmars Multi Satelite tv Services, dealers of Westward Television and other satellite services, began early in the morning and even while they closed at 4pm, several people had come to be screened of diseases.

According to the General Manager of Spirit fm Pastor Johnson Appiakorang, the free medical screening would be held again in a few months to come looking at the response and the number of people who arrived after the doctors had closed.

As to why the station chose to organize a free medical screening, Pastor Joe, as he is popularly known said 'we have been giving our listeners spiritual food for so many years and we thought it was high time we gave them some physical help as well'.

'Being a 100 percent Christian radio in Ashanti has not been easy but our listeners have stuck by us through the years, and even though we have contributed so much in terms of Corporate Social Responsibilities, we still think our listeners and their families need some more physical help and that's why we organized this free medical screening'. He noted.

Areas screened for on the day were diabetes, Hepatitis B, challenges in the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Sickling, Body Mass Index, Blood Group, Urine Dipstick, General Eye problems, among some others.

The Medical team from Emmapat Clinic in Kumasi won the admiration of the patrons on the day for their high level of professional care and love exhibited on the day.
