48 Hours To Go To Africa Fashion Show Geneva

Africa Fashion Show Geneva draws close, with 48 hours to go before the event. Organised by Crucible Events and Planners (CEP), the second edition of Africa Fashion Show Geneva is set to be bigger and better. To be held at one of Geneva's most prestigious venues the Château des Penthes, alongside the 'Here Africa' art exhibition organised by Art for the World (AFTW), Africa Fashion Show Geneva will be taking center stage at the end of May.

'The Africa Fashion Show Geneva aims to create awareness and elevate the perception of African designs, bring African fashion to the rest of the world, as well as facilitate access to foreign markets, allowing for multicultural and cross-border arts promotion' said Tayo Omotola, CEO of Crucible Events.

Taking place over two days, the event will commence with a runway fashion show on Friday, 30 May 2014 at 19.30 at Château des Penthes and culminate in an exclusive gala evening on Saturday, 31 May 2014 at 19.30 at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Geneva.

The two-day event has on offer some fantastic fashion from across Africa -Cy'MUN (Burundi), Manyeyo (Ghana), EmmaFor (Republic of Guinea), A la Pointe du Caftan (Morocco), Baldon Clothiers (Nigeria) and Malleni Designs (Uganda) all celebrating the diversity of African fashion and cultural heritage. Given the deep cultural ties between Africa and Brazil, the event will feature a unique appearance of Tony Palha (Amazonia) from Fashion Inclusive Brazil, an AFSG partner.

Following on from the success of the first edition of Africa Fashion Show Geneva, Tayo admits that there have been many highlights and some challenges, 'Getting male African models has been a huge challenge. Raising the needed finances and managing logistics for the designers has also been a big challenge' but she also adds, 'Walking up the stage to give the opening remarks and seeing a room full of people with interested and anxious faces at ASFG is always a highlight and the satisfaction from connecting emerging designers with fashion buyers.'

Alongside an exclusive runway show with performances by Nigerian rap and hip-hop artists Babatunde & McCoy, the elegant gala event will be an evening of fashion, African dining and live performances by UK-based Grammy award winner and former Rose Royce lead singer, Gwen Dickey (aka Rose Norwalt).

The event is set to host distinguished guests from Genève International, the diplomatic and UN community, such as Mr. Michael Moller, Acting DG United Nations Office in Geneva, Mrs Anja Loetscher, Director, Geneva Convention & Visitors Bureau, as well as African Ambassadors in Geneva and leading names in Swiss business, media and fashion.

Africa Fashion Show Geneva will no doubt showcase African fashion to a Swiss audience for the second year running but what about African fashion globally? On the future of African fashion, Tayo says, 'Since the 20th century, the progress made in the fashion industry has been phenomenal. Despite the myriad of challenges facing Africa, the fashion industry has tremendous growth potential to improve unemployment and empower the youth with a multiplier effect on other sectors of African economies. Crucible Events & Planners intends to be a major player in achieving this feat bridging the gap to discover African designers and to increase trade; and investment opportunities.'
