Ghanaian actor and economist, Eddie Watson Junior has called on business moguls in the country to invest in Ghanaian movies. He has revealed that lack of resources is the main challenge the Ghanaian movie industry is facing. According to him, money to finance projects in the industry is hard to find which makes it difficult to produce good movies.

“One major challenge is resources. We don't have enough money as other countries do especially comparing it to our closest neighboring country, Nigeria which is in keen competition with us. So if you look at the quality of our music videos and that of Nigerians, you will notice a vast difference between the two. Nigerians have the money to acquire the equipments but we don't have”

Speaking on Radio Univers on Easter Monday, the Purple Rose actor said there are several opportunities in the movie industry where businessmen can invest and earn colossal amount of money from but they desist from sinking money into it because of the bad perception they have about Ghanaian movies.

“Businessmen, this is the kind of industry you can make a lot of money from if you try to look at the opportunities in the movie industry but the unfortunate thing is, they don't look at it like that. People look at it like, we are spoiling the young people or we are polluting the younger generation. I think that if people are really looking at the business aspect of the industry, they can really reap”

The Liberian-born Ghanaian, Eddie Watson actor added that well produced movies can be presented to most of the international movie awards to win awards and gain international recognition.

“if you can invest good money into a project, make sure it is well shot and you take it out there, you can present the movie to places like the Cannes film festivals, and other film festivals and awards shows happening around the world. You can have your movies being shown there and have international recognition”

The actor who just signed up to be the brand ambassador of Liberia's Academy of Talents as the International Promoter further advised businessmen to see the movie industry as a means of making money and generate enough profit from it.

“ Now the CDs and DVDs don't sell as they used to but there are other opportunities. We have the internet, the internet TV, DSTV, people are even showing movies in the plane. There are so many avenues of generating money at this technology age from the movie industry”

“ They should look at the movie industry as a means of making money but not just a means of putting talents together to showcase Ghanaian talents. If they start to look at it like that and not just putting boys and girls together to showcase their artistic talents, then I think it's going to take the industry far.” He concluded.
