16.04.2014 LISTEN

The Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) Mr. P.V. Obeng last Friday commended the leadership and entire membership of the Musicians Union of Ghana for taken an initiative that will help establish the primary foundation for the future development of the Music sector and the larger Creative Arts sector. He also commended KPMG for the quality of work in the midst of very challenging data gathering environment such as ours.

He however urged all Creative Sector groups to emulate the example of MUSIGA by working to improve and create the needed opportunities for clearer policy decision making options and adoptions for easy implementation.

He promised to assist in the early release of Government allocated budget to the sector. He further indicated that Government will definitely provide the needed infrastructure for the creative Arts Sector. In the area of performance Halls for example. He mentioned the possibility of renovating the National Commission on Cultures' Cultural Centres which currently lies idle in almost all the regions in the country.

He however called for Unity among all members both within and outside the Creative Sector groups as the continuous perception of disunity in members makes it difficult to take the Creative Arts as serious industry professionals.

This advice was given when he chaired the Stakeholders Validation and Review Forum on the draft report on the Comprehensive Study of Ghana's Music Industry in Accra. He is convinced that the report when finalized will form a good reference material for the needed policy and infrastructure decision making interventions to be made for the short and medium term development framework on the Music sector.

Present at the forum were music practitioners and stakeholders from academia, policy makers, public sector bands, artiste mangers, event organisers, manufacturers, executive producers and publishers, film makers, marketers, educationist, Financiers, Creators, the media among others.
