Joyful Way Incorporated To Face Court?

A few months ago, JOYFUL WAY INCORPORATED, a non-denominational evangelistic group that spreads the gospel through contemporary music served a letter to the new face of Ghana's mainstream gospel and VGMA multiple nominee JOYCE BLESSING for copyright infringement against the group.

The issue was amicably settled and now the 'HEAVY PRICE' hit singer has the freedom to use the song Nyame Eguama which was recorded originally by the group in 1994 on all platforms.

Information reaching us allegedly indicates that JOYOUS CELEBRATION is next to be dragged to court by JOYFUL WAY INC for another copyright infringement. JOYOUS CELEBRATION being one of Africa's esteemed recording choirs based in South Africa has carelessly recorded a song belonging to JOYFUL WAY INC “Osabarima” in their annual live recording.

The song recorded by joyful way in 1994 happens to appear in their 2014 JOYOUS 18 LIVE DVD RECORDING and trust me, they had it right with the harmonies. In other parts of the world, renditions are done to hit songs but with consent from the originator and it goes a long way to promote the song and adds value to the copyright owner besides it's all about propagating the gospel.

Could it be that a member from Joyful way taught them the song on their visit to Ghana last year? Or they just learnt the song upon hearing joyful way perform it at the same concert joyous celebration was invited? Well, i think recording artists should respect investments made by their colleagues and do what is necessary of them if they want to record someone's song.
