Open Letter To Blakk Rasta: You Got It Wrong!!!
11.03.2014 LISTEN

Another dive into the Blakk Rasta-Charter House brouhaha as Blakk Rasta tries to make a distinction between reggae music and Dancehall music. I doubt we needed that education, just dumbfounded myself.

Well, you may have missed the point of the matter at hand as your misconceived sense of inferiority of the reggae genre may have taken the better half of you.

Clearly music lovers have come to admit the disparities that lie between the both of them. The matter of interest is how strong and consistent the genre has been in Ghana. Granted that Charter House decides to have for them their fair share by separating the genres, would the both of them be able to consistently produce 5 popular, vibrant and quality music separately in the years ahead? If you have your doubts on the current situation, we could step out and ask 500 average Ghanaians if they know of five reggae songs performed in the 2013/2014 musical year.

You must come to an understanding that the genres have been fused together and not given enough categories because they have not gained roots like the Hiplife and others. The longer they stay consistent, the more recognition they'd gain in the Ghana Music Awards.

Then again you can't possibly compare the BASS awards to GMA. It's like comparing, say the BET awards to Grammies and asking for a more Black recognition at the Grammies. This is our bigger platform, it takes hardwork to gain the grounds you is asking for me.

I hope you come to terms with the reality on the grounds and work hard in the coming years.

It's me, Nsiah Asante.
