Award winning female Dancehall artiste Kaakie seem to have taken the maternal health conversation to a bigger platform as she dedicated all the awards she won last night at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards to the nearly four thousand (4,000) women that die annually from maternal health related causes.
Kaakie, who earlier in the year announced her decision to tackle Maternal Health issues through an awareness campaign that will simultaneously run with her 5-city tour, on stage, stated that, "Maternal health is a serious issue and urged the VGMA audience not to overlook it."
"Kaakie has been very passionate about Maternal Health and she is never hidden the fact that, it was this passion that compelled her to study nursing specializing in midwifery, so she can play her role to ensure cases of maternal health is reduced in the country," Sadeeq Abdulai, her manager added.
Kaakie won the two awards she was nominated for, which is "Best Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year" with her hit song 'Toffee Pon Tongue' and "Best New Artiste of the Year." This brings to three (3) the awards she's garnered so far in her nearly two year career, having won Yfm Ghana's 'Best New Artiste' at the 'Loud In GH' concert last year. Meanwhile, she has also been nominated in University of Ghana's Excellence awards as the 'Discovery of the Year'.
She starts her tour this week, Saturday, May 25th in Tamale and already preparations have started in earnest to ensure a successful event. Rackus Production and Kaakie's label, Xtra Large Music, will produce the tour.
For her fans in Tamale the Queen of African Dancehall and Reggae is urging you to come out in large numbers on Saturday, May 25th at the Tamale Sports Stadium to "run things Inna your city" as she brings her two Awards home. On the night of the Ghana Music Awards 2013, the flamboyant looking Kaakie wore a dress by Pistis and Steve Madden shoes. On the sidelines of the Awards Kaakie thanked God, her fans, her management team, Elorm Beenie, Sadeeq Abdulai, Kimberly Coleman, Royce Greene and one person who has been a pillar in her career, Joshua "JMJ" Raphaelson, and her god father Samini.
