Ghana Makes History With First National DJ Awards On The Continent!

If any further evidence of the global reach of DJ culture should be required, we have only to cast our eyes and ears over to West Africa, where the maiden edition of the historic Ghana DJ Awards was successfully held.

Ghana DJ Awards sponsored by Somotex LG, Bel Aqua, Fiesta Condoms, Scratch Studios, MUSIGA, Decorcraft and Kuckoo Restaurant, first of its kind in Africa, was a phenomenal showcase celebrating an array of Ghanaian DJs at the historic National Theatre on Friday, February 15.

The awards — presented by Merqury Republic Events included a number of genres and honored DJs both old and new. Gospel, High Life, Hip Life (a blend of hip-hop and high life), and reggae DJs were recognized and awarded. DJ Black dominated the ceremony walking away with three (3) wins, and DJ Vision the proud recipient of the Discovery DJ of the Year!

VIP's, nominees and presenters alike began the evening festivities enjoying sumptuous delicacies at the foya of the National Theatre (courtesy of Kuckoo Restaurant). To the audiences delight, comedian and host for the evening DKB kicked off the night in classic form with a few well-spirited jokes and kept the night lively with more during announcements. A variety of talents rocked the stage with performances from Bradez, DJ Rampage, Stonebwuy, D3, DJ Andy Dosty, Diamond and Club Afro's resident DJ Nii.

The jam-packed show continued when new kid on the block Signal performed a special song for DJs with a live DJ set by Radio Gold's versatile DJ Gospol. In honour of their pioneering contributions to the Ghana music scene, veterans Tommy Annan Forson and Kwesi Kyei Darkwa (KKD) were inducted into the Ghana DJ Awards Hall of Fame with Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Ghana, the gateway to Africa has registered its name in history books again with an innovation which will cirtainly inspire several countries on the continent to celebrate DJs on a larger scale in years to come.
