Emefa Raising Funds To 'Help Ghana'

Winner of TV3 Ghana's Most Beautiful season six, Miss Emefa Adeti, who represented the Volta Region in 2012, has launched a foundation, 'Emefa Help Ghana', which seeks to address issues of maternal mortality, and help reduce the menace, if not to bring its prevalence to zero.

Issues relating to maternal mortality have recently been on the increase. This has earned the interest of government's, NGO's and other civil organizations to put measures in place to find a lasting solution to the canker. This, Emefa said, was her reason for coming up with the foundation.

She made this known during the official launch of the foundation in Accra over the weekends. The night was also used to raise funds for the project.

According to the Ghana's Most Beautiful, taking a project on women health was part of the reasons she joined the Ghana's Most Beautiful pageant, and therefore, “If by the Grace of God I won the competition, I don't have to disappoint my people; the project must take off.”

Miss Adeti revealed that she actually wanted to take a project on Chlamydia, (a sexually infected disease). Andin order to equip herself with facts on the disease, she visited the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, and after speaking to some health officials there, she realized that maternal mortality was the order of the day.

This, she said, made her shifted her interest to maternal mortality, alongside chlamydia, which is highly recorded in the rural communities of Ghana.

She noted that “government cannot fight maternal mortality alone. There is the need for partnership by all; it is for this reason that I launch my foundation, 'Emefa Help Ghana' today”.

Touching on the works to be done by the foundation, Emefa said, beginning with the Volta Region,she would be acting as a medium between the rural communities and the health facilities.

She added that she would raise more funds to register the women and already pregnant ones under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to enable them attend anti-natal care.

Emefa stated that she will use some of the funds to empower women, by means of helping them indulge in vocational trainings so that they can earn income for themselves.

Shefurther called on all well-meaning Ghanaians to join in the fight of making maternal mortality loose its hold among pregnant women in Ghana.

Chief Executive Officer of Creative Storms (the consultant firm handling Emefa's foundation), Dr. Kwesi Owusu, disclosed that his outfit found it necessary to work with Emefa based on the project (maternal mortality) she chose. He praised her for coming up with such a laudable initiative.

Dr. Owusu stated that the health of women are important and need not to be toyed with, adding that the “the health of women is important to the home, the community, and the country at large”.

He said that over 4,000 women in Ghana lose their lives every year on maternal complications, which if not checked will make human beingsbecome extinct.

Dr. Owusu reiterated the fact that the government cannot win the fight of maternal mortality all by itself, and so requires the supplement efforts of other individuals or organizations to keep it going.

Speaking on behalf of TV3 Network, the CEOof TV3, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, stated that his outfit will fully support the foundation in diverse was officially for one year to ensure that the project have positive impact on the society.

He noted the project started early this year in the Volta Region, and expected to cover the entire regions of Ghana very soon.

He pledged TV3's unending support for 'Emefa Help Ghana' and stressed that “we will follow her wherever she goes to make the project a successful one.”

Chairperson of the programme, Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, who also doubles as the National Co-ordinator of the National Youth Authority, applauded Emefa for taking up a project on maternal mortality, which according to her, its statistics is overwhelming.

She supported the project with a sum of GH¢1,000. Minister for Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, also made a donation of GH¢1,000, one laptop computer, and three sewing machines.

Ghana's Most Beautiful female judge, Mrs. Linda Ampah, donated a sum of US$500. Several donations made by many people from different organizations.
