'Old Oa' Masekelas Sound Fresh All Over Again

All keen followers of the legendary Hugh Masekela say one common thing about him – he never disappoints. And indeed he did not disappoint his fans during the second edition of the Kasapreko African Legends Night held last Saturday at the State Banquet Hall.

Masekela seemed to have been sure of what he was going to do. His advice warning to women not to wear high heels because they are going to be dancing throughout the night turned out to be true, not just for the women but the men as well.

Tune after tune, he kept the audience on their feet with compelling and thought-provoking African music, coupled with humour that brought joy to the hearts of many.

Sharing the stage with the man who had earlier asked to be called “Old Pa” and not “Uncle”, Adeyemi Adebayo Victor reports, were New Zealand’s finest Zozo, one of Africa’s best saxophonists Steve Bedi, and the sexy ‘Kae’ crooner, YaaYaa. Ben Brako was in one word –fantastic – as he started the audience, including the former President Jerry Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu, dancing.

Big Brother Stargame housemate, Lady May from Namibia came to Ghana fully prepared on her first visit and left with a mind blowing impression on the minds of all who came to see her.

General Manager and Head of Business Development and Marketing at Kasapreko, Gil O Real expressed his happiness about the concert. ‘We are extremely glad that Uncle Hugh together with the rest of the other talented artistes did not disappoint us and the audience that attended the event. We are excited that the audience most importantly had fun and were fulfilled musically. We thank all of them for those wonderful performances’, he remarked.

The climax of this was the joint performance of all five artistes which wrapped up the concert. The night was hosted by satirist, KSM.
