VIP GHANA SITS WITH 50 CENT'S G-UNIT: SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT AFRICA
12.07.2012 LISTEN

7.11.2012 - G-Unit Comedian Young Jack Thriller and Thisis50 recently chatted with the popular internationally known group, V.I.P, on the “Thisis50 TV” show. V.I.P, Vision in Progress, is a group consisting of three members, Promzy, Lazzy, and Prodigal. While chatting with Young Jack Thriller, host of 'This is 50 TV', rapper 50 Cent's online TV show, V.I.P discussed and addressed the unfair and unjust negative stereotypes that many people have regarding Africa. In a relaxed environment, Lazzy and Promzy started off by trying to teach Young Jack Thriller the Azonto, and then Young Jack Thriller got excited about the song “Away”, asking to sing along with the chorus of the song.

Full of energy and always welcoming, V.I.P gave Young Jack Thriller a crash course lesson in what Africa is REALLY like, versus what the media untruthfully displays to the general public. Young Jack Thriller had a lot of questions about how things operated in Africa, for instance, the ways in which one can acquire a VIP table . V.I.P informed him that acquiring a VIP table in Africa is no different than the way it is acquired in America. After receiving confirmation that all of the members of V.I.P were born and raised in Ghana, Prodigal informed Young Jack Thriller that the mission of VIP Ghana is to take Ghana Music worldwide in terms of hip-life and hip-hop. Promzy informed Young Jack Thriller that in addition, their mission is to let the world know what is happening in Africa. Promzy stated that he has realized that in America, people are receiving the wrong message about Africa. Many people abroad, when asked to describe their thoughts on Africa, will state that they equate Africa with monkeys, trees, and people sitting with flies all over their faces, which is an inaccurate image. Young Jack Thriller admitted that he, too, believed the false information about Africa that he was hearing and seeing via the media available to him, because that's all he ever sees and hears. Prodigal responded by stating that the only way people are going to know what is truly happening in Africa is by visiting the continent and seeing how things TRULY are, with their own naked eyes. The way VIP and others visit America needs to be reciprocated-- African-Americans need to visit Ghana and the rest of Africa to see what is TRULY there and make their own judgement calls based on their own interpretations and personal experiences. Prodigal stated that in Ghana, the media often portrayed America as a dangerous place with ghettos and hoods where people shoot other. However, since visiting the Bronx ,NY since 2005, he has never had a negative experience or experienced any of the violence that was depicted through his television while in Ghana, proving that you cannot believe everything you hear and see on television. In life, it is important to witness and experience things personally and individually.

Young Jack Thriller asked the group about their new album, 7/11, a double CD album, with the recently released single, “Pampana” which has been widely received by fans all over the world. V.I.P's message to Young Jack Thriller and the rest of the world was that everyone should “go home” to Africa and experience the joys and wonderful aspects of Ghana and Africa as a whole.
