We have seen many talents who joined our art and entertainment industry through Pageant reality shows etc. One promising actress who is currently improving day in and out after she contested in Ghana's Most Beautiful Beauty Pageant in 2008, is Ruweida Yakubu.
To her, she can't talk about her acting success story without giving thanks to the late Efo Kojo Mawugbe for discovering her. “The late Efo Kojo Mawugbe told me during the Ghana Most Beautiful reality show that there's a talent in me he could help me build – thus acting. He discovered that through my artistic stage performances and crafts I put up on every week's live edition.
He even had plans of casting me for the Cinderella role in the Ghanaian version of Cinderella, but after the Ghana Most beautiful show, veteran film maker, Socrate Sarfo of Movie Africa gave me the opportunity to feature in 3 of his movies which I played lead roles Last Virgin, Sexy Angle and Girls Girls reloaded. After that, I also starred in Muda's ever controversial movie, Kiss Me If You Can.
She continued that because of her dream to make it through acting, she started attending many auditions. Luckily, she met Mr Emmanuel Appiah of Revele Films. That was how she landed a lead role in the popular running television series “Abiba”.
As a former student of St Louis Secondary and crowning it at Islamic University College, Ruweida Yakubu takes her role in “Abiba” extremely serious because the story is actually plotted around her character, Abiba. From her infancy, the sort of ordeals she went through, right till now as a woman of substance and the centre of attraction in the hood. She even has enough to feed the destitute and employs the unemployed. Her love life in the series is very interesting. Watch “Abiba” and you will discover the acting prowess of Ruweida Yakubu.
Apart from “Abiba”, Ruweida Yakubu hosts a fashion show called “Fima for fashion Africa TV” in Nigeria so she sojourns in Nigeria every week. Known to many as a showbiz person, Ruweida Yakubu is also a corporate lady. She works for one rich petroleum company as a Sales Manager. Ruweida Yakubu is indeed a “Black Beauty” to behold, a “Black talent” to tap from and a “Black star” in the making. Watch out for her.
