
Nana Akua Addo She may not be as famous as Yvonne Nelson, Jackie Appiah or Nadia Buari but up-and-coming actress Nana Akua Addo can boast of considerable presence on the Ghanaian movie scene with 10 movies to her name.
The Miss Malaika 2003 finalist and the Miss Ghana Germany 2005 queen told Showbiz last week that she had always dreamt of becoming an actress but her dream nearly got shattered after being turned down many times at movie auditions.
“I got frustrated but I never gave up because I knew I would one day make it”, Nana Akua said.
She said that her major breakthrough on screen was with the movie Raj – The Dancer after she had a stint with 4Syte TV as a presenter for two years. Since then, she has played roles in Believe Me, Hidden Passion, Crazy Scandal, Breaking the Rules, Wanna be and Destiny’s Child.
Talking about the movie industry, Nana Akua said acting for her, has been very challenging especially when people fail to acknowledge that it is a make-believe world. “You are given a role to play and when you do it well, people think you are like that in real life” the actress said.
When I am on set, I am a different person, I am that character who has been paid to offer a service and I am excpected to do it the best way that I can”.
Nevertheless, she said that her acting life does not influence her cultural values. When I leave the set, I am Nana Akua Addo, my values are still there”
Born on March 3, and in her 30s, Nana Akua lived most of her childhood life in Germany.
A graduate in Computer Science and Marketing in Germany, Nana Akua says she wants to see herself as the biggest actress in Africa in five years time. “In five years time, I want to be seen as the biggest movie star in Africa and win many awards” Nana Akua hopes.
