Twelve beauties were last Saturday selected at an audition session at the Pink Panther Hotel at Adenta in Accra to vie for the title of Ghana’s Tourism Queen 2010, who will promote youth participation in the country’s tourism development drive.

The queen will also represent Ghana at the Miss Tourism Queen International 2011 festival in China.

On the domestic front, she will work closely with the Ghana Tourism Board, the Ministry of Tourism and the other tourism promotion and development bodies in the country to push forward Ghana’s tourism development agenda.

The lucky 12 who were selected from the lot are Adwoa Asabea Tenkorang, Anastasia Asante, Kundaribuo Osman Linat, Abigail Pomenya Dzokoto, Ardyce Fafa Ayensu and Precious Clara Yaa Pokua Owusu.

The rest are Charlotte Sika Quagurine, Grace Osei Begyinah, Jennifer Tete, Martha Mensah-Addae, Flora Owusu Brenya and Gloria Kudjonu.

The finals of the Miss Tourism Ghana 2010 pageant will be held on Saturday, September 18, at the National Theatre in Accra.

Two of the 12 contestants will be evicted before the grand finale.

The elimination will be based on the conduct and the performance of the beauties in the various activities in which they will participate in the run-up to the finals.

Each of the final 10 contestants will represent one of the 10 Regions of Ghana: the Upper East and Upper West, Northern, Brong Ahafo, Ashanti, Eastern, Volta, Greater Accra, Central and Western.

According to the Events Director of Miss Tourism Ghana, Mrs Delphine J. Brew-Hammond, the Miss Tourism pageant aims at promoting “the majestic tourism paradise Ghana has to offer.”

“As tourism and beauty go hand-in-hand, our aim is also for the youth, being major beneficiaries of tourism, to be brought powerfully into focus through the event,” she said.

Last Saturday’s audition session attracted ladies who displayed appreciable knowledge about Ghana’s tourism products. They also gave impressive suggestions about how to tap Ghana’s potential to become a tourism hub in Africa.

The maiden Miss Tourism Ghana pageant was held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra last year.

This year the winner will drive home a brand new GW Peri salon car from Tanink. Other sponsors of the pageant are Vega Foods, UB Hair Relaxer and Voltic Mineral Water.

The others are Emefa Jewellery, Pink Panther Hotel (Accra & Kumasi), Kenya Airways, Silverbird Cinema, Darling Wigs, Ministry of Tourism, Ghana Tourist Board and the Ghana Tourism Development Company Limited.
