UNESCO presents equipment to Pokuase for Radio Station

Pokuase (GA), June 1, GNA - Madam Elizabeth Moundo, UNESCO Country Representative in Ghana on behalf of the Director General presented equipment to Nii Otoo Kwame III chief of Pokuase for the establishment of a Radio Station at Pokuase near Amasaman in the Ga West District. The equipment valued at 27,000 dollars included computers four electricity buck-up systems, two printers, one digital camera and scanner.

Madam Moundo told the Ghana News Agency after the presentation that the project funded by the government of Switzerland through UNESCO was part of a Global Project on the establishment of Community Multi Media Centres (CMMC) to promote local cultural activities. She said the Radio station was designed to reach only the people of Pokuase and its surrounding areas and would provide training on Internet Communication.

It would also provide information to the community in local languages, introduce computer literacy programmes to the people especially the youth and support the growth of economic activities in sectors as small enterprises, fishing, farming and also help in quality education.

Nii Otto Kwame, who received the items on behalf of the people, thanked the donors for promoting development in and around the community.

Nii Came, who is also the chief patron of the Ghana Culture in the Neighbourhood World Network for Local Cultural Activities, said the centre would be entirely managed by the community.

Mr Evans Oma Hunter, Co-ordinator of Ghana Culture in the Neighbourhood express gratitude to UNESCO for the support and appealed to the Ga West District Assembly to rehabilitate the road linking the town to the Accra-Kumasi highway.
