It appears the much-awaited Ghallygold Awards being organized by Item 3 house, to reward excellence in Ghana's film industry, may not grace the stage come May 8 as promised.

As the date draws near, the organizers appear to be in limbo over whether they should postpone the event or continue to organize it on the stipulated date. At the moment however, there is nothing concrete apart from media publicities to indicate that the awards may come to fruition.

A week ago, producer cum artiste manager and actor, Fred Nuamah, took a swipe at the organizers of the awards, advising them to change the date of the award to after the FIFA World Cup.

According to Fred, no company will be interested in sponsoring the awards, especially when it is being organized for the first time. He explained that every company is now aiming at sponsoring events attached to the World Cup.

“I think it will be impossible. On our event calendar now, we have the World Cup in June. You know why Ghana Music awards was held in April?

They quickly did theirs because of the World Cup. I don't think that it will be possible for a marketer or advertiser to market a programme such as Ghallygold awards and is even the first time. If they have to do it, then they have to do it well.

In my honest opinion, they should postpone it because for them to get sponsors will be a problem.

Every company now is concentrating on the World Cup. I think they should wait after the World Cup then they can go ahead,” he told NEWS-ONE in exclusive interview last week.

However in a reaction, Rockson Adu-Boahene, CEO of Item 3, said though they appreciate Fred's concerns, another school of thought could also argue that after the World Cup, companies may claim they don't have money because they sponsored the World Cup.

He further intimated that Fred's idea is however good and he was going to meet other stakeholders he was working with to debate the issue of postponing or continuing the awards.

The stipulated May 8 is drawing closer, with less than 16 days to go.

However, signals picked by NEWS-ONE indicate it that there is a high possibility that the award ceremony will be postponed. Efforts to reach Rockson proved futile as his cell phone numbers could not be reached at press time yesterday.
