shook the foundations of the Tamale Sports Stadium last Saturday when his tour stopped over in the Northern Region capital as part of an MTN sponsored four-city tour titled The Experience.
The Afro-Reggae star was able to attract an unprecedented 15,000 peaple to the 21,000 capacity stadium, to celebrate the Eid-il-Adha festival. He was supported by other artistes; Kwaw Kesse, King Ayisoba, Sherif Gale, Stone Boy and Zionites.
told Showbiz during sound check prior to the show that he was satisfied with the first stop that they made in Kumasi a week earlier where he had over 4,000 fans who paid to share in the experience.
Asked what he was expecting at the Tamale show, he said “I expect the show to pull a little more people than what we had in Kumasi”. Meanwhile, one of the organisers of the tour, Verus Nartey of M-biz Africa Ltd, said they were expecting between 5,000 – 8,000 fans to attend the show.
The Tamale show exceeded those expectations. It took off slowly with some Tamale based popular artistes, who warmed the crowd up. SL (Star Legend), Andy of TV3 Mentor fame and Black Stone kept the tempo up and when Kwaw Kesse took control, he made the crowd wave their hands from left to right throughout his performance as though they were watching the final match between Ghana and Brazil.
When it was his turn, King Ayisoba watched the already excited crowd as they sang along with him one after the other to the very last song he performed. They gave a similar response to Sherif Ghale’s performance.
It was time for the man of the night to mount the stage. As the crowd kept cheering and looking on the stage to see , the reigning Best Performer in Africa popped out from beneath the stage to the surprise of everybody. He was dressed in an all-yellow outfit.
He took charge of his own show and treated the crowd to over two hours of non-stop performance back to back, with a live band.
After the show, it was evident that everybody had had a full helping of the experience. A sweating who obviously got more than he expected said, “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the crowd. This was massive. It’s unbelievable. I don’t even know what to expect in Takoradi and Accra”.
Kwaw Kesse gave a similar confirmation. “This was the biggest crowd I have ever seen in the Northern region, and you know I loved the crowd because they were very lively”.
Before the show, and his crew paid a courtesy call on the Dakpema of Tamale, Mohammed Alhassan Dawuni at his palace.
The Dakpema advised the young musicians especially those who hail from the northern part of the country to sing about peace and promote peace.
’s next stop will be at the Takoradi Jubilee Park on December 5 and then to Accra Ohene Djan sports stadium on December 19. Share Your Thoughts on this article Name Email Location Comments Graphic Ghana may edit your comments and not all comments will be published
